Born in 1958, Katherine Meredith (Strutt) was raised in the beautiful Gatineau hills. She is the daughter of an accomplished architect and has been surround by architectural and artistic people most of her life. Katherine is a graduate of Fine Arts, John Abbott College in Montreal. She then pursued her degree in commercial Art from Algonquin College in 1980. Over the years she worked for various graphic studios, printing companies and was marketing manager for a national company for 15 years before retiring to a new career, renovating homes.
Katherine has since retired from doing home renovations and has picked up her brushes full time. She and her husband moved to the island in 2012, and the island has become the backdrop to her inspirations. From city scapes in Victoria to water scenes throughout the island on their camping trips and to the local areas scenery, all give her fantastic ideas for her creative interpretation.
She tries to capture the moment or memory on canvas and to explore various techniques to reflect the mood.
Katherine’s medium is acrylics, but has also produced many works in watercolors, pencil, and carvings. She has a wide range of styles from impressionism to abstracts based on the inspiration of her surroundings. So it is hard to pin her down but it is usually very colorful and bold! “Nature when looked at closely, very closely, shows spectacular shapes and colors that we tend to miss or ignore.” Landscapes, Cityscapes, Gardens, Flowers and Boats all add to her visual inspirations.
Katherine has sold many originals and commissioned works over the years and welcomes anyone to her studio located in Nanoose Bay.
She has shipped many paintings across Canada in the past few years as her works on line are being found.

When I was in preschool, my favorite time of day was when I was allowed to draw and paint. As I got older, this love never faded and eventually I went to college to study art. I have been painting for 40 years now and have no plans to stop.
I work in acrylic on canvas.
I have many different styles and techniques.
I believe that working in a single style is restrictive to my artistic process.
Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
I enjoy camping and fishing in my spare time and many of my pieces are directly influenced by these trips in nature. I draw inspiration from water, trees, flowers, people and city scapes.
