This piece emerged from a photograph I took on the shores of Vancouver Island—an image that captured the fleeting motion of a single wave. I magnified that moment, isolating the wave to explore its rhythm, energy, and emotion through my own artistic style. My goal was not just to depict the wave, but to evoke its movement and presence. If I could add sound, I would—because this wave speaks.
What followed was an exciting evolution in my technique. I developed a method I call the “controlled pour,” where I apply epoxy selectively to specific areas of the canvas. Into this resin, I introduce color—turquoise, white, and a vibrant orange-yellow—pulling and blending to create a translucent, dimensional effect. This process adds a sculptural quality to the work, allowing light to interact with the surface in unexpected ways.
I’m thrilled by how this approach deepens the visual experience and invites viewers to feel the wave as I did: alive, layered, and luminous.
